What to check before you choose a provider, and where to compare them. General information to help you decide, not medical advice.
Before you choose any provider
- Check the practitioner is registered. You can search the AHPRA public register by name.
- Ask for the full cost, not just the first appointment: follow-ups, tests and anything you’ll need to buy.
- Ask what Medicare or your private health cover will pay back, if anything. It depends on the service.
- Compare how soon you can be seen, and whether telehealth or in-person suits you better.
- Ask about cancellation and refund terms before you book.
- Switching provider? Ask how your records or current script will move across.
